Can you give a brief introduction of yourself, your home and work? 

Hi friends! I am Wendy Zock the creator of The Curated Farmhouse Blog, where I share my passions for interior design, DIY projects, social media tips, cooking, and more! Two years ago my husband retired from the military, and we moved to his small home town in Pennsylvania. We bought a 1913 home, and are building the life we always dreamed of, one DIY at a time. 

My parents always built things…

when I was growing up. So I have always had somewhat of a creative side. My love for design goes beyond just loving pretty things. I love to be in a well designed space. The feeling of peacefulness and joy you get. I think when we bought our 100 year old and we gradually fixed it up over time, I really fell in love with design. The way the house made me feel as we renovated each space. Every little bit of progress, gave me a feeling of joy, one of my favourite feelings ever! So that is why I love helping other people design their spaces. Through my services and through my social media pages. I love being able to give other people that same feeling. The more I design the easier it is for me to pick out what needs to be done in different spaces, and come up with creative solutions. 

Honestly, my skills at decorating were something that was ignited inside me. I always liked decorating my home, but it wasn’t a passion. I would decorate rooms where everything somewhat matched, but I did not pour myself into each space like I do now. I think I was definitely born with a creative side, which makes the process funner for me for sure. I think the skills come with just taking chances and having visions for each space. 

As a business..

I sent my products to brand reps on Instagram. Once I saw their gorgeous homes, it sparked something inside me. I wanted to create a space that made me and my guest feel “at home.” I wanted to create these amazing spaces within my own four walls. There is so much creativity and inspiration on Instagram it is hard not to fall in love with design. 

After spending two years building my brand on Instagram, I now run my own social media marketing company, with my business partners Jessica @itty_bitty_farmhouse and Kristin @havenconference. Together we create small intimate social media retreats @socialgatheringretreats across the United States. We consult on social media marketing, content creation, Instagram mentorship, and home decor e-design. I have such a passion for helping others, through empowering my clients to set goals, crush them, and chase their dreams!

What year was your home built and do you have any details of the history or building process you would like to share? 

Our home was built in 1913. We don’t have a ton of history on it, however the previous owners did a lot of work on the house to restore it. They added an entire basement, and an additional master bedroom suite, and bathroom. They also added an additional room upstairs. When we bought it we decided to do some renovating ourselves. We renovated the kitchen and dining room. We added shiplap to most rooms of the home. We painted pretty much every wall white that we could. We removed carpet and added wood flooring to the living room and entryway. We have remodeled two of the four bathrooms so far. 

How do you define your decor style? What are your favourite types of decor?

My favourite type of decor style is farmhouse. It is all about the warm and cozy vibes, full of charm, and meant to make people feel at home when they enter your spaces. My favourite types of decor are vintage and wood pieces.

What is your favourite thing about your home? Do you have a favourite room or furniture piece?

The favourite thing about my home is how relaxing it feels. I love to decorate for every season, and love that my guests can curl up on the couch with a throw blanket (I have a ton laying around in baskets and on the furniture.) I think my favourite room is the kitchen. It is a place we all come together, to cook and eat! My favourite furniture piece is our built in bench dining table nook my husband built. 

Do you have any big future plans for your home? What is next for you or your home? 

I have so many plans. What is next? A master bath remodel, and a new sunroom built on to the front of the house. We are also thinking about adding an outdoor she-shed office space for me.

If you had one design or decor tip, what would it be? 

If you feel like you have no idea where to start, grab a can of paint. Paint can brighten and lighten up any space in your home. Start there and see what else inspires you. IN today’s world there is a YouTube video for everything. So take a chance and remodel whatever you don’t like in your home. You can do it! You want to fall in love with every corner of your home, just take a chance!

Do you have a business or social media tip you can give to all those who want to start a blog or home decor business?

I think the more you create spaces that have meaning, and provoke love and joy, you gain confidence. With each gasp and smile when someone is seeing a newly renovated space in their home, you gain confidence. 

Start sharing your love for design on social media. When you design your spaces and in turn inspire other people to decorate for each season, it can build a lot of confidence. 

Take chances. 

Be bold, and be yourself. 

You have something special to offer. 

So do not try and be anyone but who you are. 

Everyone has special parts of them to offer when they design a space. 

A different view, a different vision. 

That is what makes you special. 

Go with your instincts. 

It is easy to convince yourself that you do not have time for your dreams, but my advice is; there is no better time than now to make time for your dreams. 

I think I would also say that when you do make time for your dreams, there is no better feeling than doing what you love. People will tell you not to do it, but I say “Do what you want, do what you love. Follow your instincts, set goals, and reach for those dreams.”
