Can you give a brief introduction of yourself,

your home and work?

Hi! My name is Jennifer Horowitz. We moved from the suburbs of Texas to our ranch 6 years ago. It was owned by the same family since they settled it in the 1850’s. We were honored to be the 2nd owners of this beautiful ranch with sprawling open land, surrounded by woods that have, hundreds of pecan trees, and many 2-300 year old trees, as well as a spring feed creek.

To say we were excited about our new life in the country, is an understatement. We lived in what is now our guest house for 3 years while designing and building our current farmhouse.

What year was your home built and do you have any details of the history or building process you would like to share?

3 years ago. We designed it ourselves and had an architect put together our designs and plans, and then built it ourselves. It was a true labor of love. I wanted the house to have a historical feel, as if it had always been here & added on to over time.

How do you define your decor style? What are your favourite types of decor?

I would call it traditional eclectic, with a dash of rustic modern…. Is that a thing? LOL! I love drawing inspiration from Ralph Lauren and Suzanne Kasler 2 of my favorite designers. All their designs feel comfortable, lived in, and yet classy and refined.

What is your favourite thing about your ranch and home? Do you have a favourite room or furniture piece?

Oh that’s hard… Probably the kitchen and the la Cornue oven. I wanted the island to be BIG, and it’s a little over 10’… Perfect for lots of cooking, baking, and entertaining.  The quartz countertop, It’s the look of marble but it’s forgiving… I’m a clutz, so I didn’t want to stress about spilled wine or stained by food. And the oven is a French stove that adds an old-fashioned/historic feel to a more modern kitchen.

Do you have any big future plans for your home? What is next for you or your home?

We’re always doing something here, haha! But our big project is finishing our chapel, designed by me to look like an old country church, and a party barn, that we’ve named Osage Hall. The chapel was a long time dream of mine… It just felt like it should’ve been here all along. There used to be a church on our road that had its last service in the 1930’s, and it’s long gone now, so we feel like we’re bringing back the Church to Old Center Church Rd in Whitesboro TX.

Osage Hall seemed like a great addition too. We love to entertain and now that people are asking to get married out here, it was the perfect addition for parties and receptions. We can’t wait to share both spaces of our ranch and home soon!

If you had one design or decor tip, what would it be?

Most of us gravitate to a certain style of decor without even realizing it. But to pull it all together, I really recommend keeping it simple in color pallete, and then rotating your favorite things in rooms to keep it interesting. We all get bored of design at some point, so just rotating a few decor items, throw pillows, florals, and tchotchkes, etc., can make a whole room feel refreshed.

Do you have a business or social media tip you can give to all those who want to start a blog or home decor business?

When I started on Instagram, I got some really good advice from some successful feeds that really helped me. Keep your photos light and bright, share things you love, (design or lifestyle or both), and share others that inspire you as well.
